Rubens is struggling at Honda. Who asked him to move out of Ferrari? Granted that Ferrari struggled last year, but with Honda, which is supposed to have a much better car this year than last year’s car as well as this year’s Ferarri, Rubinho is unable to get any close to Button.
He was unhappy that he was being made the second driver at Ferrari and was hoping to become the #1 driver at Honda, but this season is done for his dreams. Button has out qualified him big time and of course, has more points than Barichello.
I have maintained for a long time that Rubens is a cry baby. Even if he finished 2nd and 3rd in the past, he would cry about how his balance was not good or tires were not proper or whatever else. He needs to realize what kind of driver he is and live within his means. He has a good opprtunity with Honda where he can make a difference and make the team compete better with the McLarens and the Renaults, but he is squandering it away by trying too hard.
Well, I see that you’ve ripped into Rubens, and maybe rightfully so…but don’t you think that his lack of good quali/race performances at Honda could just be attributed to the fact that he has just joined the Honda team this season…? Personally, I don’t think that Rubens was ever upto Michael’s calibre at Ferrari (being a Schumi fan, I think very few people are as good as the Reinmeister), but I do think that Rubens was right to leave the team, and given a bit more time, I am convinced that he will do better than Jenson at Honda…
@ferrarista: Yes, I have ripped into him, but not for joining Honda or for leaving Ferrari, but for being a cry baby. He felt that he was being made second choice at Ferrari (different from being the Driver #2), and that he was being neglected and such. I don’t think any of that is true – Ferrari wanted to win the constructors’ championship as much as the drivers’ championship and in order to get there, they would have to make sure Rubens gets a good car for every race. Also, I think Button is not such a good driver in general, so becoming #1 driver in that team should not be that difficult. In fact, I was assuming that Rubens would prove to the Honda team that he is better than Button, but looks like it is not going to happen this season. In any case, old habits die hard and Rubens continues his crying 🙂
Well, I do agree that Rubens whinged quite a bit…especially as his term with Ferrari came to an end…Haven’t really been following him as much since he joined Honda. I definitely agree that Ferrari didn’t “neglect” Rubens, but giving Rubens the benefit of the doubt, I think he was just fed up of being overshadowed by Michael…and hence the complaining/whinging.Am not really sure why I’m defending Rubens…maybe its just because until last year he used to be part of my Scuderia. Anyhoos, for old times sake, I hope that he does well…soon!!
@ ferrarista/rpm – gotta disagree with you guys with the Rubens being better than Button comment. I believe Botton is way much better than Rubens. Its just that Ferrari were dominating until last year that Rubens came out with something. Its quite obvious this year what the situation is, when they compete for Honda…
@ferrarista: I feel for him, but at the same time, I know that no matter what he is going to whine, so I am not going to support him at all. Instead, I’d like to see poor Fisi get a break and of course Massa making less mistakes.
@rajesh: rubens drove the bad ferrari of last year better than button is driving the good honda this year. Of course, I have no idea how I ended up with that statement, but if we look at Button’s promised status and where he is now, I think he has been more of a disappointment than a success. But of course, he is the Driver #1 at Honda and he will be, till Rubens proves otherwise. We’ll see.
I like Rubens and I really feel for him. Mustn’t be easy to switch teams and then get absolutely hammered by his so-so team mate. But I think he’ll pick up his game when he gets used to things (just look at Ralf and Jarno!)rajesh warrior: I’m sorry, but I disagree with u about Button’s driving ability. He had the equipment in 2004 and while Ferrari may have dominated, there were many races where he could have had that elusive first win (e.g. Monaco) but didn’t capitalise on his chance. You can’t blame it on inexperience either cos he has been around for quite a while. Can you imagine what Kimi or Fernando would’ve achieved with the Honda that year?? Trulli managed to win Monaco with probably a more inferior Renault and I don’t think he’s as good a driver as Button.Btw, did you hear about the Mike Gasgoyne sacking??? That was completely out of the blue! Maybe u can blog about that next :0)
@leenz: Yes, I feel for Rubens in some way, but even when he was at Ferrari, he just would not give up on his whining. But of course, I wish him best because he is not one of the guys I *don’t* like (Vill, DC, etc.). Those guys, I would not even wish them to win the races ;-)Gascoyne post coming soon – wanted to read a little bit about it before posting 🙂
cool, looking forward to your thoughts about that one :-)btw, why don’t u like DC and JV??
@leenz: I don’t like DC because of his attitude – a sub-par driver with an enormous attitude does not make for a good fan following. Plus of course he has butted heads with Schumi in the past :-)Vill, for the same reason (Schumi), but I must say, he cannot be called a sub-par driver since he has won pretty much everything there is to win in open wheel racing 🙂
damn u schumi fans!!!!! :0)
@leenz: LOL! But you have to agree Damon Hill was pathetic, DC is a Damon Hill clone, Vill is just a pathetic loser :-)I can sprinkle more such stuff on anyone else who dares to come in Schumi’s way 😉
Haha!! I’m a Schumi fan too and I so TOTALLY understand why you dislike Jacques, David and Damon…Of the lot though, I think I dislike JV the most…As far as I’m concerned, he didn’t deserve that title in 1997!!! It should have so gone to Michael!! Oh, the pain when he lost!!
