I read this morning about the death of Rajkumar, but I did not know about the violence in Bangalore following his death. Someone at work asked me what was going on and I did not know what he was talking about.
But these acts of violence after death of a celebrity is utter nonsense. I don’t think I can relate to the passion that the locals have for the actors, but I don’t think burning up buses and stuff should be in any way considered ‘ok’.
Looks like the city was shut down pretty much. Terrible.
Shut down ?? People were going crazy and I am told that there was no stopping them. If the mode of death was strange then I can understand, but all this insanity after he passed away due to a Cardiac Arrest? And also one would not expect this happening in Bangalore !!
@rajesh: yea, that’s what makes it so weird – even with all the influx of smart people, there are still some old timers who have enough passion to do such nonsense. Sucks.
Its like the violence that happened in Pakistan over the bombings at the religious gathering celebrating the Prophet’s Birthday. Its weird why people start destroying things in utter heat and passion without thinking.
@reza: I can imagine (though I can’t agree with) the passion that religion can create. But passion towards a celebrity? Not sure.
