Happened to catch a little bit of the Spelling Bee competition on ESPN this afternoon and what I noticed was it is such an unfair game … one guy got Siphonapterlogy and later on, someone got Zebu.
Zebu??? Siphonapterology??? Come on. This game is not fair 🙂
Watched the finals yesterday on ABC, very cool! Desi kids totally represented, 3 in the top ten! I love this stuff!
@virginia gal: Yes, it is cool that there were 3 desis out of top 10, but none in the top 3 :-(Heiligenschein. Damn. But it was good to see he got a standing ovation 🙂
@ Virginia gal/Rpm – We have been dominant for more than 10 years now. I remember watching it while I was in India and desis were winning big time.As far as the game being fair is concerned – I guess luck plays its part as well. Ought to get some tough words, but we tend to spot them only when he/she doesnt spell it correctly.Judges try to be as fair as possible and yesterday, if u remember, a girl was called back to the stage ’cause the judges made a mistake. Lot of German and Italian words this time though :). Funny, the way they’re ‘pronounced’ 😉
i can’t believe that actually was in HD while the Indy 500 which was also on ABC was not
@rajesh: it was my first time ‘watching’ it, so it was new to me :-)Of course, because Sameer Patel was a colorful fellow last year, it was in the news and i had followed the competition a bit. @katie: LOL! Spelling Bee in ‘Spectacular HD’??!! Unbelievable. Gotta think who is heading these networks and who is making these decisions and how come they are not fired yet!
it’s not too surprising that indy is not in HD on ABC. May be ESPN has rights and ABC doesn’t (for hi-def).
@samir: abc and ESPN are the same company. Also, the finals for the spelling bee were in fact on abc (same as Indy 500), which is what Katie was saying.
I felt sorry for the indian in the end – he was given a really hard word!Heiligenschein – what in the world?suyog
@supremus: Weren’t you irritated with how many times the poor guy repeated the word?? 🙂
