Green Bay vs Dallas is an easy one for me to miss out

#

Don’t like either of the teams. So no point in watching the game, because depending on how you see it, it was a lose-lose for me, or a win-win for me. I’d say, lose-lose because no matter who wins, I would not be happy.

Green Bay destroyed Dallas, and I don’t like it.

Why the mid-7th break?

#

Why do they have a break in the middle of the 7th innings in baseball? Why not in the true middle of the game?

What a game 1!

#

Wow. Amazing game one of the World Series. Someone pointed out during the USC game that the Penn State game score was 6-4 and the baseball score in the 3rd innings was 7-5! That was ironic.

But the offense on both sides fired on all cylinders and really, the game was not over till it was really over. I am not sure how long both of these teams can keep playing like this.

Certainly, as a spectator, this is awesome. I am watcing the game 2 and Boston is up 6-1 in the 7th. I am not going to woof it. But they showed some stats where St Louis has not lost in the post season at home. It will be interesting next week.

And I still think Joe Buck does not want the Red Sox to win. Just like many Yankees fan I know. I will keep my thoughts to myself till its over :-)

It was not a bad second half after all

#

38-0 was the final score - USC apparently routed Washington. I saw the whole game and I really did not feel like they routed Washington, but that’s what the papers say.

The defense was really strong. I think the defense really showed up in this game and hopefully they will only get stronger as the season goes on.

Oh, and since there were not many upsets, USC is still #1. Now, on to Washington State. That is going to be tricky.

USC sputtering against Washington

#

As I had expected, and sort of feared, USC is sputtering against Washington. The offense is completely off the mark, and Leinart especially, has had no good passes made. Bush is so-so, though he’s been the only one doing anything on the field and Lendale White has not been featured much yet.

What has kept USC in the game is the excellent defense and pretty bad execution on the Washington offense.

With only 10-0 lead close to the end of the first half, it is absolutely a moral victory for Washington, which is at the bottom of the Pac-10.

Will this game bump USC down to #2 in the polls, and hence maybe even #3 in the BCS? Wait and watch.

The World Series

#

I don’t think the World Series will go the distance. I think it will be a 5-game World Series.

Not sure who will win it though - both the teams are coming off rallying wins in the LCS. Both the teams are tired and baseball is rough on you because you play back-to-back nights.

Red Sox have some sort of an emotional momentum going for them. So my thinking is that Red Sox will win it but the chances are maybe 60-40, not more than that. It is quite even and I think the first game will be really key. And again, the advantage will be with the Red Sox since they start there.

Let the games begin! :-)

Who else thought Joe Buck wanted the Yankees to win?

#

He was too partial in his commentary/calling the ALCS games. I am so glad the Red Sox won. In his face! :-)

Isn’t it about time that the callers, however good they are, are told to not be so partial?

As I was saying - Fox is enjoying baseball this year

#

Fox won the ratings war on Wednesday - Game 7 of ALCS. They are all set for another week or so of good baseball ratings with the World Series - no matter who they end up meeting. It is going to be pitched as ‘reverse the curse’ World Series.

As if you need a reason to go to Cancun - Formula 1 race in 2006!

#

Look at this on BBC News - there may be a formula 1 race in Cancun in 2006! Wow, that close? Moscow has been trying for years now, and there are so many other places that want to host, but have not been able to. And out of nowhere, we have Mexico!

If not Indy, go to Cancun! :-)

Maybe both, if there is enough time and money :-)

Unreal!

#

After being stomped around for 3 games, and being in the dump 0-3, the Boston Red Sox have won the ALCS in 7 games against the New York Yankees! I love it! Love it, love it, love it!

Things are getting busier and busier

#

No time to stop and wait. Stuff keeps getting piled on. Can’t wait for the weekend!

So there will be a game 7 in NLCS also

#

Looks like it is working out perfectly for Fox. Both ALCS and NLCS games have gone into game 7. And both those series have been wild, exciting, and fun to watch.

Meanwhile, still no jinxing on this blog for ALCS :-)

What a game last night!

#

I was so happy that the Red Sox won! No jinxing here, so I will not finish the rest of my thought :-)

Wow - Miami is at #2 in the first BCS standings of the year

#

HAHAHAHA! Already a controversy, especially in Norman. Oklahoma has reason to be peed. They are #3 in the initial BCS Standings.

USC is #1 (no doubt about that one), and Miami is #2.

Oh what a pity

#

The second test between India and Australia ended in a draw. Because of one whole day lost due to rains. Damn. I think it would have been a close one, but oh well, on to the third test.

Pathan is injured. It was just a matter of time. He was over bowled. Because we don’t have other strike bowlers to support him (esp in one day games and esp outside India). So Nehra comes in. Something tells me that Ajit will be sitting out and it will be Nehra/Zaheer :-)

Veerappan shot dead!

#

Wow! That is big news. The sandalwood smuggler who lived in the forests in Karnataka and who had eluded the police for years, was finally shot dead. That must be quite a relief to the Government.

Check the BBC News Story.

Ho Hum

#

I found out last evening that I am not going to be flying today, but tomorrow. Yippey! A 4-day weekend! I got a lot of necessary but boring chores done. Like taking care of some late bills. Taking care of health insurance headaches (just switched providers). Taking care of some emails. A lot of boring stuff.

Thought I’d watch the Red Sox/Yankees game, but just as I started the TV, the Yankees piled on 3 runs in one inning. I could not take it anymore. Shut off the TV and went back to work. I guess it was a sign - get all the dirty tasks taken care of! :-)

Fly out tomorrow, and be back on Friday. Another short week. Yay!

Nice words

USC routs Arizona State!

#

Yay! What was supposed to be a tough game for USC, turned out to be a demolition. The only bad things were injuries to Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush. These guys have been the pillars so far, and to have them out would be a very very bad thing.

Hope they get better through the week.

45-7 was the score and I am sure it would have been much more. Arizona State is different from Cal in one big way - they have no running game. As a result, almost as soon as they were in a tight position on offense (and that happened a lot of times), they had to end up passing and the USC secondary was quick enough to pick up the QB. So many sacks. So many punts. I loved the game.

We had a friend visiting us and he is from USC and we went to Dave & Buster’s to see the game. Realized that they had a pretty nifty piece of equipment, which basically is a speaker, with the TV channel chooser. So you see the pictures on the main TV, but the audio is channeled for you at the table. Good stuff, I like that a lot.

And about the game - what about Dwayne Jarrett? I had told earlier that he is a no-good receiver and that there was too much hype but I think in the last game and this one especially he has proved that he is a good replacement for Mike Williams. His catching style is very similar and his body frame is like Mike’s so you could easily mistake him for Mike. I think missing Steve Smith in this game would have been huge, but Dwayne made it almost trivial. Congrats, Dwayne for a great game.

And of course, Reggie Bush had another awesome game. All round. I hope he is not badly injured. Next up - Washington. Hopefully USC is not going to get complacent and take it easy because the two toughest games are up and they are sort of ‘over the hump’.

Wow - no work on Friday is awesome!

#

It was an awesome feeling to realize that even though it was a Friday, I didn’t have to go to work! I was refreshed by the middle of the day, just unwinding, getting my mails sorted and generally catching up on the taped TV shows of the week.

I love 4-day weeks! Let’s vote for a 3-day weekend!

What was she thinking??

#

Went for a haircut today. The woman who cut my hair looked like a newbie. I had never seen her at that Super Cuts before. She had just taken a smoke break and had not refreshed her mouth. So that was strike one.

Then, she started to cut my hair with some other blade number even after I told her to trim and use number 3 blades. That was strike 2.

And then, at the end I realized that she had cut too much hair and too unevenly! It was a disaster. That was definitely strike 3.

I am not going to let her cut my hair in the future. No way. Now I have to hope that it grows quickly to a respectable level.

:-(

I'm going home tonight!

#

I am going to go home tonight and not on a Friday!

Yay!

Arguments

#

One thing I like about my coworkers is that we always have a nice and healthy debate on anything and everything. It’s not like we are arguing and fighting all the time, but we are good at challenging anyone’s statements and asking for a true justification.

One thing I miss now is paying close attention to my history teacher. I was never a fan of history and now I feel that I need a 3-hour movie about history of the world. I don’t usually have hard facts to back up my thoughts on history.

Kumble's still doing well for himself!

#

So Australia’s famed batting line up is also subject to collapses. I didn’t expect that from 136 for no loss, they could get 235 all out.

But something tells me that it could still be a close one. If India cannot build enough lead in the first innings, if at all, then Australia will be well in the game with the safety of not having to bat last.

It is time for Laxman to wake up, and Sehwag to justify his spot. Ganguly will have to make sure that he does not give his wicket away, and Kaif will obviously have to do something to not be left out. This is his chance to cement his place because whenever Sachin comes back, there will be one batsman who will have to sit out. If Kaif does well here, it could well be Yuvraj’s turn to sit out.

And of course, Dravid will have to stay at the wicket for a long long time.

Congratulations to Kumble for yet another classic performance.

Let’s see how this one unfolds.
