One of the longer running test batting records is now under threat. Vinoo Mankad’s and Pankay Roy’s opening partnership of 413 in 1955/56 is now under threat from none other than India’s Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid. At 403 for no loss, they are only 10 runs away from that record.
It is quite strange because Dravid is not an opener, and Sehwag was not one till he got settled into that spot. Even though Sehwag has stated that this is not a permanent arrangement (and rightly so), this match will raise certain questions about the batting order.
Why was Dravid the ‘sacrificial’ one? Why did he have to be the opener-interim and not anyone else like Lax, Yuvi, Sachin or Ganguly? Sachin and Ganguly especially because they have opened in one dayers.
Oh well. What this test has proved is that draws are still possible in test matches. What a flatbed pitch this one is. Stoopid.
Reggie Bush followed Lendale White out of USC and into the NFL bypassing their senior season.
Good luck to both of them in whatever role they get in the NFL. I am sad that the USC backfield is truly completely empty now compared the last season and some serious doubts come to my mind about how we will perform next year.
But this is not the time to think about USC’s loss, but to think about NFL’s gain. All of a sudden you see a whole bunch of USC Trojans in the NFL performing well. Lofa Tatupu, Carson Palmer, Troy Polamalu, Keary Colbert, Willie McGinest, Brian Kelly, etc. were all in the playoffs.
I am sure Thunder and Lightning will cause many ripples in the NFL next year.
Wow, I did not realize that the website was pulled off too! That was really quick. Why would they do that? Maybe their message boards were bombarded by fans of the show? If that was the case, dammit, keep the show!
I don’t want to see Skating with Celebrities. Show Reunion. Who murdered Sam? We won’t know. :-(
Looks like it was a good week for USC. Here’s why:
1. Unless you have been living under a rock (or maybe outside California, which is the same thing ;-) ), you know that USC lost the National Championship defense at the Rose Bowl.
2. Carson Palmer made a fabulous throw on the second play for Cincinnati in their first post-season appearance since 1990 (?) and a second later what he felt was painful even on TV! The lineman fell on Palmer’s knee and the way it bent was just excruciating to watch on TV.
3. Troy Polamalu gave up a 15-yard penalty for unsporsmanlike conduct which made coach Cowher to talk about composure in the game.

Thank you, blogger. I wish I did not have to write the email to you :-)
I like Google Suggest which he gives a thumbs sideways. Also, I have still not used MyWeb 2.0 to the extent that I will love it. I don’t use social bookmarking the way the world seems to be using it.
And thanks to him, I will not be installing Google Pack even to try it out. I have Picasa2 already and am happy with that and the Google Toolbar.
I just saw the press conference tidbits, but bottomline is that Vince Young is leaving Texas one year early and going to go to the NFL.
I think it is a good move for him. His stock is quite high at this point and there are a few teams that can use him at QB. I don’t know if he will go ahead of Leinart, but he can easily go to the Titans.
If that happens, it will be weird. It will be the second year in a row that Norm Chow will have the USC’s opposing QB from the National Championship game, after Jason White from last year. Such is life.
But more importantly, USC may actually start at #2 next season. Especially given the blockbuster recruits they signed yesterday.
I don’t want to read about how well Vince Young played, about how Mack Brown is a master, about how the Texas defense stepped up, about how the USC offense could not bring it this evening, all of it.
Need to be off the media for a week at least. And time to focus on other things.
Here is what I saw suddenly when I tried to post this evening:

I am not going to fight it. I am not sure though, how this blog could be detected as a spam blog. What kind of activity determines that?
Oh well. For now, for every post I make, I have to enter a word for verification.
Tip of the hat big time to Vince Young. Played like a true stud. Won the game single-handedly for Texas. How about that 4th and 5 scramble for the game-winning TD? Oh man. He is unbelievable.
I had seen a couple of his game before this one, but this was the best.
He should not come back to Texas and go for the NFL. His stock would have shot up big time after this game.
Reggie Bush should know how a momentum change can swing the game away or towards a team. His lateral caused a turnover which could easily have been a TD in one or two plays.
Instead that fumble put his confidence out, he had to take that egg off his face, and the Longhorns got the momentum swing they wanted.
I was listening to the radio and I heard that 95.7 Max Fm is having a commercial-free day today. That’s fantastic. They play the best mix of music and now, no more commercials to interfere with the music. Could not ask for me.
Check it out because they have an online version too. If you like the 70’s and 80’s music, you will love this station. It is set on my dial for quite some time now (Ever since they changed their format from country to this new mix format).
If the dealer’s service department is trying to get its existing customers hooked on to the brand, then our car dealer is surely succeeding.
The wife took the car in for a regular service over the weekend, and complained to them about some jerks she faced while accelerating. A few hours later she got a call from the service department saying that they found some issues with the transmission and since the car was under warranty, they will replace it at no cost. Also, since it was going to take about a week to get it done, they would let us have a loaner car and we should go by and pick it up.
We went there and were pleasantly surprised when we found out that the ‘loaner’ car is actually a 2006 version, fully loaded! I mean, fully loaded:
1. Voice-activated navigation system 2. Sunroof/moonroof 3. Heated leather seats 4. Heated side mirrors 5. XM satellite radio 6. Handsfree phone link
I was amazed. The car is zippy and the suspension is tight. Feels wonderful to drive. I love it so far and would keep driving for the whole week.
The only thing is that it is smaller than the car we currently have and we do need the space. So I don’t think we are truly in the market for that car (or as the case is, any car), but we are going to talk to a lot of people about how good the TSX is.
That was such a disappointing loss. I was rooting for you. You let me down. And let Ohio State (and therefore Texas) fans brag about it in my face. I had predicted that you would blow out Ohio State what with the ‘Weis Effect’.
