Can you imagine - leopard looking at your face, saying ‘Drop the chalupa!’ ;-)

Fascination with Gmail

#

What’s the fascination with Gmail? I know that when something is hard to get, it becomes more wanted. But after all the upgrades to Yahoo and hotmail, why is there such a demand still for Gmail?

As I start browsing sites about blogging, I realize a common trend is for people to announce that they have a Gmail account or they are so frustrated that they don’t have one.

Heck, even I announced that I have Gmail! What a fool I am…

No, I am not excited that I have one. I use Outlook, so disk space and email quota don’t have too much importance in my books. I would love to see their ‘threading’ feature, but that is not something I am dying for at this moment.

Come on people….there are better things in life to look forward to :-)

I am happy for Houston

Report: Magic set to announce McGrady trade by Wednesday

I am happy for T-Mac. He’s been scoring points but not winning games. Wonder if Yao-T-Mac combo can cause trouble in the newly re-aligned NBA next year…

Hope so.

Interesting thought...

Was listening to a morning radio show on the way to work and they were having a good discussion about whether it is wise to take your kids to see Fahrenheit 9/11.

It has some pretty graphic pictures of the American soldiers' bodies being charred and hung on the bridge. It also has horrific images of kids who died because of bombing in Iraq. Would you take your kids to such movies?

At what point do you start telling them about such things? Is there a sign?

Yesssssss! She's born!

My niece is born…after what seemed like a long period of labor, she’s finally a part of this world!

Happy Birthday to you!

Waiting patiently...

#

Sister’s gone to the hospital…she’s in labor now. It could happen anytime. Is my niece ready to come to this world?

Should we sing Happy Birthday to you?

Is it the end?

#

Last night we went to dinner with a friend who is moving back to Bombay on Tuesday. It is not going to be the same again. It was a given that if there is something good to do, that he and his wife would be included.

Cricket, parties, functions, picnics, vacations, everything would have him as one of the participants. The commenting in the cricket games would be the part that I would sorely miss.

I wish him all the luck in whatever he ends up doing, including possibly coming back here. Of course, that would just rock!

Is it the end, or merely the beginning of something new?

Check out this blog. Long posts, but definitely must-read.

I got Gmail!

#

Thanks to my cousin in NJ, who signed up me instead of himself, I have a Gmail account now! It is truly a no-frills interface, in line with all other google properties. And in fact now since rediffmail has offered free email account with 1GB, the whole novelty of high storage space is also gone.

But the good thing is that Gmail lets me see my emails in a thread fashion too. That really helps if I am trying to follow a conversation. I am sure it will only improve as time passes by.

Now I am waiting for an invite from Gmail, so I can sign my cousin up….

England - too much hype?

#

I am not a big soccer fan. Sorry, football. But I noticed how everyone was talking about England and how they were shocked when they lost.

Granted that it was a great match, but didn’t they have a self-goal? Didn’t the highest paid player David “Posh Spice’s husband” Beckham miss a penalty kick? Didn’t he miss one earlier?

The English media elevates their teams and players to the highest levels. Case in point - Tim Henman. Any time he reaches the quarters of a Grand Slam, the talk starts. There is in fact a Henmania at Wimbledon every year.

Another case in point - the cricket team. Teams like Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka have won the World Cup, but England has not. In fact, I can’t remember the last time England won a significant tournament. This is after the fact that their domestic cricket structure is probably the most well-developed.

Is all the hype and hoopla around the English teams and players worth it?

That Venus Williams match referee error

#

Saw that match on a replay this morning since there was no play again all day today. It was quite bizarre actually. There was no point won, it was only a first service fault which was returned and the umpire just changed the score from 2-1 to 2-2.

What surprises me is that the players did not realize the score change…are they so focussed that they have no idea what the score is? Either of them??

Bizaaaarrrre.

Fahrenheit 9/11 rocks!

#

Yes! I saw the movie. It is truly hard-hitting. I wonder how the powers-that-be have allowed this movie to be made, and released to the general public.

How did Michael Moore get all that footage? Some of it was pretty graphic.

The people all clapped in the theater at the end of the movie. I did too. I felt like. It is a very well made movie, even though it is sort of a documentary. It did not get boring at all. Maybe it was because the characters of the film were quite funny. The part where Bush is shown in the elementary school on the morning of 9/11, is too funny. He was so clueless. Correction, he is so clueless.

Let’s see if this movie has election impact…

Waiting for the weekend.........

#

Wow…time is flying. It’s already Friday! Amazing.

Don’t have much planned, except to see the Michael Moore movie. Apparently, even CNN gave it a good review. I have been told that it is tough to please CNN.

Will post what I think of the movie once I see it…

Do you think this match was fixed?

Wimbledon 2004 - Venus match umpire error

Why would it be? Too much money bet on Venus?

Or was the chair umpire just not on the court? Who knows………

For true fans, this is a must-buy

Should be COOL!

I love trillian, so this just sucks...

Users fume over Yahoo-Trillian scuffle | CNET News.com

Why would there be no interoperability I don’t know…but this has to stop. Yahoo has other features in its tool that makes me not want to uninstall the yahoo messenger client from my machine like webcam and launchcast, but at work, I would rather have trillian.

Yahoo, please stop this blocking business. If you are afraid of spim, please find other solutions rather than just taking the easy way out by blocking third party clients.

Venus upset...I likeyyyyyy!

Yahoo! News - Venus Upset in Second Round of Wimbledon

Never liked her much, so I am glad that she’s gone.

The NBA draft!

#

It’s here! I guess this year is a little different from the others because of the expansion team and also because some bigwigs are planning to get traded…

I never liked Nowitzki, so him coming to the Lakers in place of Shaq is not a great thing to look forward to. Hopefully something will change meanwhile ;-)

Ganguly does not make sense...

#

Ganguly says form will decide opener’s slot - Cricket - Indiatimes

From there:

“There is still five-six months to go for the team to play a Test match. Presently the team will play in one-dayers. After seeing the form of the players in the one-dayers, we will decide on the second opener’s slot,” Ganguly told reporters here.

Now tell me, how does this make sense? Form in one dayers will determine opener? So Akaash Chopra should seriously start looking for contracts in South Africa, the US, maybe even second level English county cricket :-)

What's the deal with the NBC show T.H.E.M.?

#

Happened to watch the crappy T.H.E.M. What’s the deal? Just some random pranks on groups of people? Just show us the magic, guys. We’ve had enough of Punk’d to be able to appreciate such nonsense.

NBC is losing it. They better line up something strong for Fall, or else CBS is going to run away with all the ad dollars.

Squash for a change

#

I am going to play squash…I have played it for quite some time, off and on, but still don’t know when is it a let and when is it a stroke.

I guess I need to start playing with someone who knows more than I do. Currently I play with guys who learnt the game from me, so they know as much as I do.

So here I am...

#

I feel that I am finally a part of the new blog-enabled world. I consider myself well-connected with technology, but for some reason I did not get hooked on to blogging. Finally, after much procrastination, here I am.

I am a University of Southern California Trojan. Yes, your 2003 National Football Champions! Go Trojans! Fight On! I still believe we should have been in the BCS Championship game, but what the heck!

Anyway, did not want to ramble on too much. Hopefully you will get to know me more and more as time passes. Be on the lookout for my thoughts on my favorite pastimes - college football, NFL, Formula 1 racing, Cricket, movies, and more!
