Recently I heard two people use the word ping to talk in the context of messaging on instant messengers. One of them was the wife and I am pretty sure that she does not know where ping actually came from. And I know the other person and she most likely does not know where ping came from either.

But it is amazing how nowadays tech terms have become part of normal communications. I did not ask them if they knew about pinging but it is just funny how it works.
