They have not come up with a plan of showing the first cricketing action in the Indian cricket season. I hope they do, because I don’t want to sign up for computer-based cricket action.
And I do want to see this one. Though I am pissed at the selected team. I do believe that Agarkar needs to be in the team ahead of Nehra. Ah well. C’est la vie.
I like Ganguly as a captain. He has always backed his players and formed this team. In fact, he has, over time, earned the respect of his teammates. Especially the youngsters.
But he does play favorites. Well known examples are, he loves Nehra and Bhajji. And he does not like Agarkar and Powar.
Granted that Powar is not a certain inclusion, he was still dropped from the side after decent performances in Pakistan.
But dropping Agarkar is even more shocking. Is Nehra a better bowler than Agarkar? Who knows? Both are on-and-off bowlers and both need their ‘days’ to shine. On their off days, both are quite pedestrian. So what made Gangs choose Nehra?
Because Nehra probably brings him his morning tea with biscuits and newspapers. And Bhajji probably irons his clothes for him before he goes into the shower.
This attitude just sucks.
My first time to these places. I was surprised to see the night life there. Of course, I had anticipated it, because of the stories heard about the place. But to experience it first hand, it was quite amazing.
Miami never sleeps, or so it seemed. A comparison was made to Vegas. But I think Vegas has an older crowd and a different mindset. People in Vegas have a different agenda than the people in Miami. And that’s why I liked Miami better.
In fact, Key West, where the southernmost tip of the continental USA is, is probably even better than South Beach. I loved the life there. Don’t know if I can live there and survive there, but for a vacation, if given a choice between Miami, Vegas and Key West, I would definitely choose Key West. It is smaller, but cooler. :-)
Just take away the rain, and the traffic on Route 1. ;-)
I thought that being born and brought up in a place which is routinely ‘hot and humid’, and also having stayed in the area for 6 months or so in summer/fall, it would be easy to go to Florida at this time of the year.
No!
California has spoiled us. It is warm and dry. Not hot and humid. 85 is considered hot. More than 70% humidity is high. Tampa was probably at 95 and 95. Same with Miami. The problem was compounded by the fact that it was always nice and cool inside buildings and in cars. So as soon as you step out, you are drenched in sweat.
Wonder how easy it is to make a move from warm/dry to hot/humid. And vice versa. I’d say that latter is easier.
Not that I have to prove anything to anyone, but from Thursday night 11pm to Monday night 11pm, I did not access the internet! That’s 4 complete days with no email and no internet access.
I know I can do it. But does everyone else believe it?
They’d better!!
So the big bosses have decided to snub the US and make all the matches of the 2007 Cricket World Cup local to the West Indies.
I am not sure where I’ll be at the time, so I am making no plans. But if I am in the US I would love to go see some matches there…maybe follow the team package and watch India?
That would be wonderful. Who’s signing up?
Despite what people said was a thrilling Wimbledon finals match, I think Andy Roddick is overrated. He has a good serve, but his overall game is hyped up here in the US and most of the European players are better than him on paper at least.
Mentally, he has the edge over them and that is key, no doubt. But besides his serve and some attacking groundstrokes, he does not have that complete package to beat someone like Federer consistently.
But unlike my point about England being uselessly hyped, I think Roddick is at least somewhat worthy of the hype.
Well, it is never nice to compare sportspersons from different eras, but it is just too difficult to resist saying that Michael Schumacher is the best Formula 1 driver ever.
This past weekend he won yet another race this season - the French GP. That makes it 9 out of 10. And if you consider that the one race he did not finish, he was leading and was taken out by Juan Pablo, it could have been a perfect season so far for him.
Well, in my books, it is still a perfect season. I am not blaming people who say it has become a boring sport, with such dominance from one competitor (Schumi, as well as Ferrari being ‘the competitor’). But interestingly enough, the race for the rest of the spots is quite a good one.
I am rooting for Renault - I love Trulli and Alonso. Hopefully they will beat out Rubinho at the end :-)
Didn’t I say that Maria Sharapova’s got what it takes?
What a win! Completely contradictory to pre-match analyses. She’s too tired. Serena’s won three in a row. It’s her first Grand Slam title. Any many more.
But she did it. Though I must say, the first set was more a story of Serena’s unforced errors than Sharapova’s winners, but the point is that Sharapova did not give in to the occassion. She stayed on top of her game and mentally took Serena out of the match. The exact reason I thought she would actually lose the match.
Congratulations, and may this be the beginning of a new wave!
Its Tuesday, July 6th, 2004 and it is time to get out of the vacation mood and swing back into work mode. Sigh. But this is a short week too! Looking forward to a nice and relaxing weekend…
Long long weekend (taken the Friday off) in Miami and Key West planned. Was quite pumped up about the trip. First time for me. First time for my wife.
But after the li’l one’s situation, our minds and hearts will be here. Hopefully she will continue to improve and get her health back in order. Our prayers are continuously with her. Hope it is just a minor, temporary thing. Hope.
We debated if we should stay back and not go this weekend. But it seems that the baby has to be in the hospital till Tuesday in any case. Plus there is some help around, so it should be ok for the weekend.
Cell phones are a wonderful thing. Hopefully we will use them only to exchange ‘I love you, sister’ calls … Mojito, anyone? ;-)
What a contrast of emotions I had this evening, in seeing the same person at two different times. I saw the li’l one again today. But this time, instead of seeing her in the kind of freedom that I had seen her last time around, I saw her with countless probes and needles attached to her body.
Due to some complication, she has been admitted to a bigger hospital with better facilities and she is in the ICU there. What a poor little thing she is now. She has lost weight. She does not know how to complain. She is crying a lot. Finally she was able to get fed.
That was a relief. But how long will this agony last? Science, despite all its advances, has no idea about so many things. Doctors are clueless about the cause. What is going on? No idea. The only hope is that it will wear off after a month or so. With medication. More needles. Poor thing. I feel sad for her.
One thing I learned from the experience - we are so helpless when kids are that age. She is trying to tell us something, but we have no idea what it is. Is she cold? Is she warm? Does she want to sleep? Does she not want to sleep? Is she hungry? Wants to burp? So many possibilities, but no answer.
Who knows the New Born Language? We need help. Fast. For the baby’s sake and the parents'. For my sake. For the sake of all who love her.
I wish someone comes forward.
I have seen it now. The bond that a parent forms with the child immediately after birth. I was too young when my other cousins were born and then maybe i was not really focussed on such things when my nieces were born, so I did not see it then.
Now, I see it. Clearly. The love. The emotions. Mom and child. Dad and child. How does that happen? Who programmed us that we immediately have this kind of affection with the kids? Miracle of life. That’s when you know there is a supernatural being somewhere. That’s when you start to appreciate the beauty that is life.
Bow down…

HAHAHA!
Maria Sharapova has done it again. I thought she would not be able to come back from being one set down to winning the match against Lindsay Davenport.
I mean, to come back from behind against Ai Sugiyama is different, but to do it against a former champion is something that tells me that she is different.
And in both those matches, she ripped through the final set.
Of course, Serena is going to be a completely different opponent. She has won here twice in a row and she is just too strong in today’s tennis world.
Let’s hope I am not hyping Maria too much. Good luck, Maria!
Today, I had the opportunity to ride the VTA Light Rail for the first time in my life. It was, I must say, very very convenient. If you home and office are on the light rail, without connections, I would say you must take the light rail.
Although there was a slight hitch along the way, where the door would not close completely, the ride was smooth. It was quite early in the morning, so in fact, the walk to the office was nice too.
I think I’ve just become another fan of the light rail!

SL 43/3 in reply to Aus 207 all out
At the end of day 1, after being all out for 207, Australia fought back by taking 3 quick wickets. McGrath got both the openers, one bowled and one lbw.
Tells me something scary. Could be that McGrath is back! :-(
And what better way to start it than Carson Palmer and the Cincinnati Bengals. Marvin Lewis wants them to win the Super Bowl this year!
Wow. Wow. That’s a lot for a ‘rookie’ quarterback. Will he step up and deliver? I hope so.
I am not a big AFC fan, but in this case, Go Carson!!
Check out this bit of news where Max Mosley says that they have blocked 19 weekends next year.
Wow! Is there some record out there that Schumi has not broken…yes, there is. Winning 19 races in one year! :-)
I am sure Pups would like that ;-)
How can the taco bell Mexican Pizza (no meat) taste so awesome every time you have it?
Unbelievable….
On a recent post of mine, where I asked if Jagmohan Dalmiya was the best diplomat, I got two comments - one saying that maybe he is the best politician, and the other saying that he is the best businessman.
The question is who is a diplomat? Is he/she a politician? No. Is he/she a businessman? No.
But, is he/she political? Extremely. Most of the time. Is he/she there to make some money? Probably so.
In that case, Dalmiya is the best diplomat - because he’s somehow managed to be on the board, be a president, or secretary of the important organizations in World cricket, and has made a ton on money in getting there.
He is now made the Asian Cricket Council president. Is this guy the best diplomat in cricket today? Ever??
